Artist's ring, silver, onyx, circa 1970.

Gilles Jonemann, a Swiss sculptor, goldsmith, and jeweler based in France, created artist-designed jewelry for leading Parisian galleries specializing in this field during the 1970s and 80s: the Gennari, Lacloche, Pascal Morabito, and Sven galleries. He taught at the École supérieure des arts appliqués in La Chaux-de-Fonds from 1977 to 1985. He also designed jewelry for the haute couture collections of Peer Spook and Issey Miyake in the 1980s and 90s. He received first prize at the De Beers International Jewelry Competition in 1975, as did Onelio Vignando before him. The Parisian gallery Naïla de Monbrison, a pioneer in artist jewelry, organized a monographic exhibition of her jewelry in 1995 and 1997. Her creations were exhibited in the jewelry gallery of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, rue de Rivoli in Paris.

Her creations celebrate the poetry and exoticism of unusual materials in jewelry such as wood or raw shells, as well as graphic, refined, almost Nordic forms.
