Double-strand sautoir necklace with imitation chains and pearls, alternating translucent glass cabochons in transparent, black, white and fuchsia tones, with smooth rim and cord, gilt brass and glass, from the workshop of Louis Rousselet, unsigned, circa 1960.
Louis Rousselet (1892–1980) was a major French designer of 20th-century costume jewelry, known for his glass beads and highly recognizable pieces.
Born in Paris, he began his career at a very young age in the world of beads and glass. He quickly developed a unique expertise in the handcrafted production of hand-blown, wound, and hand-enameled beads, often irregular in shape, which gives them their singular charm today. He collaborated with major houses, notably Gripoix, famous for its glass paste, and also worked for Parisian haute couture. Louis Rousselet is among the leading names in French costume jewelry, alongside Maison Gripoix and the workshops associated with haute couture.
